Pile-on Bass

Left the dock at 5am on Saturday 6/13 in search of bait. Two and a half hours later We started fishing. Yes, the pogies were that elusive! The fleet was scattered from Fields Point south as far as Sabin Point, some were fishing while others were getting bait. We left the boats in search of quieter waters. Fishing an area that Capt. Joe has been doing well at, We put 10 fish in the boat in about 1 1/2 hours as well as numerous break offs. Fish were any were from 8-12 lbs. with only 1 being short. Chunking was the method of the day. All in all it was nice to be out on the water.

Striper Madness

Well it's June 1st and Tight Lines has been in the water for about 1 month now. I personally haven't had much time to fish but Capt. Joe has been doing pretty good up in Providence with pogies. He's been out on average 3-5 times a week. Contrary to some reports, the bait is there although it can be tough at times to locate. The bass have been running about 12- 16 lbs. on average. The Bluefish have arrived so the chunk bite should get better as these choppers have their way with the menhaden. Sorry for the lack of posts, hopefully I can get some time on the water. One high note was that Tight Lines had a 1st Place finish in the PAC Striper Tourney that benefits the Make A Wish Foundation. Jon Drumm was the angler with a bass that weighed in just under 32 lbs.

Spring is here!

Well it's the last week of March and spring is really trying to arrive. Word is that the herring had arrived about a week ago in nearly all the runs. Cod fishing has been very good for those venturing out on the party boats. I haven't heard much in the way of stripers, but reports from south of here say that fish are starting to move. The Thames River has been producing bass for those wishing to get out but I haven't heard much about the Hurricane Barrier up in Providence, but most guys tend to keep it quiet.
I'm hoping to put the boat in the bay around late April but that could change if the fish are earlier. I'll start posting more frequently as the fishing season heats up. So until then, sharpen those hooks and start preparing for the upcoming season.

Tight lines!

It's almost here!

Well January has come and gone. In only a few short months I'll be at it again, fishing that is! I've been going over tackle, replenishing my fly boxes and looking forward to "09".
Seems that all the talk is about the impending Salt Water License. Let's face it, there's no way around it. Either it is implemented by our State or the Feds will do it. There's been concerns about reciprocation with other States as well as the normal " Where's the money going to go?. My main concern has been will the monies be put into a restricted receipt account to be matched by the Federal Government or put into the General Fund( to be wasted as usual). Will this affect the amount of people who fish, I don't think so. In the long run I think it will benefit everyone concerned with the state of our fisheries.
In closing, remember to get your tackle ready now because spring isn't to far away!

Tight lines,

Capt. Mike
